Mechanisms involved in gastric protection of melatonin against oxidant stress by ischemia-reperfusion in rats

The present study was undertaken in order to further elucidate additional antioxidativemechanisms responsible for melatonin-induced gastroprotection in I-R injury. Therefore theactivities of certain enzymes such as XO, a producing oxidants enzyme, total glutathione levels (GSH) and the antioxidant enzymes SOD and GSSG-rd were investigated. Furthermore,histological analysis of the lesions was also studied.
