Herbal teas from different species of the Achillea millefolium group are quite commonly used against gastrointestinal disorders due to the antiphlogistic, spasmolytic and antimicrobial activities. Some investigations to confirm the antispasmodic effects of the drug were already performed, but no detailed information about the responsible substances were described. Flavonoids as some of the main compounds in Achillea millefolium L. are known to possess spasmolytic activities besides many other pharmacological effects, and these compounds are extracted into teas and tinctures as yarrow is mainly applied.
